Two Cute Kid Moments

1. The school lunch included fortune cookies so all the kids wanted me to read their fortunes to them. Christian is 3. I read him his fortune: "You will receive a large sum of money." I explained to him that a large sum meant he would get a lot of money and wasn't that exciting - he could buy lots of things. I was moving on to the next kid to read her fortune when Christian picked up the two halves of his cookie, peered into them sternly, shook them and yelled "hey, they forgot to put the money in!! Where's all the money??" If only money did fall out of fortune cookies...Number 1 Chinese Restaurant would seem a whole lot more "Numba Wan" :)

2. During nap time most of the kids eventually fall asleep and then the assistant teachers tend to chat. Yesterday we were chatting about what we might be for Halloween as a couple of us have costume parties this weekend. We were throwing ideas around and one of the older, somewhat overweight assistants poking fun at herself said, "I need to be a jellybean or something - something round and fat." On the cot next to me was 3-year-old Sloane (see the post "Kids Really Do Grow Up Fast" for another Sloane story). She hadn't fallen asleep yet and she poked me and whispered "Um, Miss Andrea, something round and fat is not scary. Halloween costumes are supposed to be scary." Sloane is one of my favorites - she is so adorably funny.

Sloan probably thinks costumes are supposed to be scary because that is the excuse the school gives for not letting kids wear them on Halloween!! Crazy!
