Here I go, joining the world of blogging! THAT was easy! [see Staples commercials for details...some restrictions apply]
Today marks the end of my first week in DC which has included:
-moving into an apartment that my roommate picked out and I had never even seen before moving in...not even photos. It's awesome even if halfway underground.
-assembling approximately 7 pieces of Ikea furniture with my sister - it was like a super Erector set playland for semi-grown-ups!
-waiting 5 hours for the Comcast cable/phone/internet technician whose English skills left something to be desired...and our phone worked for about 8 hours before dying, so tomorrow I'll get to wait for several more hours for our friend the Hispanic Comcast chico with his 85-pound tool belt to come and try to fix it
-unpacking, unpacking, unpacking - something I abhor but my sister adores
-spending a full 2.5 hours at the Arlington, VA DMV which must be the source of the DMV's at large reputation. I am now officially a Virginia girl, which is somewhat frightening. I wanted to keep my beloved NY license, but the look on the DMV lady's face when I mentioned my sadness at letting it go indicated that it was going to be disposed of...possibly by her consuming it before my very eyes.
In short, moving in involves a seemingly endless number of hassles and errands which make me wonder what people who move every few years could possibly be thinking. But of course, there is the excitement of a new place with so very much to see, do, and explore...that is if you can ever escape the house arrest that is dealing with Comcast...
